Meet the Knitter: Joe Wat, the Colorwork King

Shit That I Knit Team | Joe Wat

Team: Gimme shit

Name: Joe Wat

Hometown/Age: Chicago/24

Years Knitting: A year and a half

Who taught you how to knit: My aunts taught me the basic knit stitch on Thanksgiving Day 2013 which started a loooong path with many teachers.  I also had a long bus commute to work and would sometimes stand up and ask random people for help.  This list would not be anywhere near complete without the amazing folks at the Woolly Lamb Yarn Studio in Chicago near my house.  Each open knitting session was a master-class and you’ve taught me so much.

Best Thing you've ever knit: Hopefully whatever I knit next.

One word to describe you: Contrast

Where is the strangest place you have knit: I often walk around knitting while pulling yarn over my shoulders out of a drawstring backpack.  In some bars I’ve gotten funny looks but I never thought it was strange…

Favorite show to watch while knitting:  Currently, Game of Thrones.  Historically, Doctor Who

A responsibility you have put off to knit (and was it worth it)?: I put off finding a job for four months and spent that time hustling my knitwear.  Good enough for food, not good enough for rent… yet…
